The Brooksbank School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after children — Children who are in public care (Looked After). This includes children who ceased to be looked after because they were adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order and children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and were adopted. Definitions follow those in the School Admissions Code 2021.
2. 2Named feeder primary schools — Children attending one of the school's named feeder primary schools; All Saints Primary, Bowling Green Primary, Cross Lane Primary, Elland CE (VA) J and I, Holywell Green Primary, Old Earth Primary, St Patrick's Catholic Primary, The Greetland Academy and West Vale Primary school.
3. 3Siblings — Children who have a sibling attending the school at the time of admission.
4. 4Children of staff — Children of staff at the school. "Staff" means any person employed by the school under a permanent contract at the closing date for Year 7 admissions applications (usually 31st October in the year preceding admission).
5. 5Aptitude for sport — Children who have a particular aptitude for sport. Allocations under this criterion will be limited to up to 10% of the planned admission limit. Parents must complete a separate application form for consideration under this category, returned to the school by the deadline set by the school, and must have expressed a preference for the Brooksbank School on the online application form. Applicants will be invited to attend a session where their sporting aptitude will be assessed. All those who are above the minimum standard in the test will be submitted (in ranked order) for consideration under this criterion in the allocation process.
6. 6Together Learning Trust primary schools — Children attending another Together Learning Trust primary school: Scout Road Academy, Bolton Brow Primary Academy, Linthwaite Clough Primary School, Meltham Moor Primary School.
7. 7All other children — All other children who do meet the above criteria.

If two applications tie: If, within any criterion, there are more applicants than places available, priority will be given to those living closest to the school. Distance will be measured in a straight line ("as the crow flies") from the child's home address to the main entrance gates of The Brooksbank, using Calderdale Council's electronic mapping system. If two or more applicants live equidistant from the school, the place will be allocated by random draw, conducted and recorded by an independent person.

Aptitude for sport category is limited to up to 10% of the planned admission limit and requires a separate application and assessment; this is not a whole-school selective (grammar) arrangement.
