Poole Grammar School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after (eligible) — Eligible boys who are classed as 'Looked After' or have previously been 'Looked After', whether in England or another country, in rank order of the entrance test scores.
2. 2In historic Poole area/postcodes, Pupil Premium (eligible) — Eligible boys who live within the historic Borough of Poole or Poole postcodes BH12, BH13, BH14, BH15, BH16, BH17, BH18 and BH21 3-- and who currently (31 October 2026) receive Pupil Premium, in rank order of the entrance test scores.
3. 3Outside historic Poole area/postcodes, Pupil Premium (eligible) — Eligible boys who live outside the historic Borough of Poole or Poole postcodes BH12, BH13, BH14, BH15, BH16, BH17, BH18 and BH21 3--, who currently (31 October 2026) receive Pupil Premium, in rank order of the entrance test scores.
4. 4Sons of staff employed 2+ years (eligible) — Eligible boys who are the sons of current members of staff where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time when the application for admission to the school is made, in rank order of the entrance test scores.
5. 5In historic Poole area/postcodes, no Pupil Premium (eligible) — Eligible boys who currently (31 October 2026) live within the historic Borough of Poole or Poole postcodes BH12, BH13, BH14, BH15, BH16, BH17, BH18, and BH21 3-- and who do not receive Pupil Premium, in rank order of the entrance test scores.
6. 6Outside historic Poole area/postcodes, no Pupil Premium (eligible) — Eligible boys who currently (31 October 2026) live outside the historic Borough of Poole or Poole postcodes BH12, BH13, BH14, BH15, BH16, BH17, BH18 and BH21 3-- who do not receive Pupil Premium, in rank order of the entrance test scores.

If two applications tie: In the event of a tie for the 180th place, the place will be offered to the boy whose home address is nearest to Poole Grammar School, measured using BCP Council's Geographical Information System (GIS). Where applicants are equidistant (matched to three decimal points) or live at the same address or in the same block of flats, random allocation, independently overseen, will be used to decide between them.

'Eligible' means a boy has achieved the required academic standard in the entrance tests. Boys named on the common application form without having taken the test cannot be considered and will not be offered a place. Applications from siblings of a multiple birth spanning the PAN threshold are treated as an exceptional circumstance and all are admitted if all reach the required standard. Boys with an EHCP naming the school who meet the academic standard are admitted before preferences are considered (not itself a numbered criterion).
