Townley Grammar School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children / Previously Looked After Children — Children in Public Care (Looked after children) or children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order. (Looked after children are children who are in the care of the local authority as defined by section 22 of the Children Act 1989. A child is considered to be a looked after child for school admissions purposes only if the local authority confirms he or she will be in public care at the time of admission to school.)
2. 2Pupil Premium – qualifying selective score — 20 places are available for children attracting Pupil Premium who achieve the qualifying selective score, ranked in descending standardised score order and then by distance. Townley Grammar School must be listed as a preference on the CAF (Common Application Form) and the required SIF (Supplementary Information Form) submitted.
3. 3Pupil Premium – up to 2% below selective score — If fewer than 20 places are filled in category 2, Further places will be offered to children attracting pupil premium ranked in descending standardised score order and then by distance up to a maximum of 2% below the standardised selective score. Townley Grammar School must be listed as a preference on the CAF (Common Application Form) and the required SIF (Supplementary Information Form) submitted.
4. 4Top 180 scores — Girls identified by the London Borough of Bexley as achieving one of the highest 180 scores in the selection tests and who apply for a place at Townley Grammar School.
5. 5Sibling — Girls who will have a sibling attending Townley Grammar School at the time of application. For this priority, sibling includes a full brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, or step/half brother or sister living at the same address.
6. 6Children of staff — Children of staff at Townley Grammar School in either or both of the following circumstances: where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
7. 7Distance — Distance from school with priority given to pupils living nearest to the school based on the distance from home to school in a straight line. (Irrespective of selective score – excluding top 180 students). The distance will be measured by the Local Authority's computerised measuring system from the home address to the student entrance approved by the Trustees as the official entrance to the school. Home will be taken as the child's home address at the time of allocation, (National Offers Day) that is the address at which the child lives with the parent or legal guardian who is also the main carer, defined as the parent. Distance from home to school will not be revised if parents/carers re-locate after National Offers Day.

If two applications tie: Where a tie break is necessary – because two or more applicants live at an equal distance from the school as measured under criterion 7, the girl with the highest aggregate score in the selection test will be offered the place. In the event that two or more girls living at an equal distance from the school have the same aggregate score, random allocation will be used.

The school is a designated grammar school permitted to select by ability. All applicants must be 'deemed selective' by the London Borough of Bexley before oversubscription criteria apply. 20 places are reserved for Pupil Premium students. A Supplementary Information Form (SIF) is required for Pupil Premium criteria. The school also has Sixth Form oversubscription criteria (Year 12, up to 100 external places) with separate criteria: LAC, GCSE point score descending, siblings, distance.
