Distance depends on the band here
Hurstmere School admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Compulsory ability banding assessment (non-verbal reasoning) at the school; applicants placed in one of nine bands. 24 places available in Bands 1, 5 and 9 and 23 places in Bands 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8. Banding assessments held 30 November and 1 December 2026.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Random allocation, independently verified, where the distance between two children's homes and the school is the same.
Hurstmere Admissions Policy for Entry in September 2027. Admits pupils representing all levels of ability. Pupils with an EHCP naming Hurstmere are dealt with through a separate process and admitted after that process is completed.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
