Barnehurst Junior School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 3), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after children and previously looked after children — Children in public care (looked after children) or children who were previously in public care immediately before being adopted or subject to a residence order or special guardianship order. Children adopted outside England (IAPLAC) are given equal first priority alongside looked after and previously looked after children.
2. 2Barnehurst Infant School Pupils — Given to children who have attended Barnehurst Infant School. In the past the Trust have ensured that all children in Barnehurst Infant School who wish to transfer to Barnehurst Junior School have done so.
3. 3Siblings — Siblings of children who will be attending Barnehurst Infant and Junior Schools at the time the child is due for admission. This priority does not include brothers or sisters due to transfer to secondary school in the next academic year. Brother or sister includes a full, adopted, step or half brother or sister living at the same address. Where twins, triplets or other multiple births would qualify for fewer places than the number of children, all are treated as siblings and accorded the sibling priority.
4. 4Hardship — Given where the disability or medical condition of a parent or sibling, or exceptional social or domestic circumstances, would result in significant hardship if the child did not attend the school nearest to home, nearest to the place of work of the parent not suffering the condition, or convenient to the family's child-minder. Requests must be made with supporting evidence at the time of application and are considered individually by a panel of Governance Partners; Bexley Council's own medical adviser may be asked for a professional opinion.
5. 5Children of Employees of The School — Children who live with parents who are employees of the school provided the employee has been employed by the school for a minimum of 2 years at the date of application, or to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable shortage, and have a permanent contract.
6. 6Distance — Children living closest to the school, based on the distance measured as a straight line from the home address to Barnehurst Close gate. Measurements provided by Bexley Council in accordance with its home to school distance measuring policy. Home is the address at which the child lives with the parent or legal guardian who is the main carer (the parent eligible to receive child benefit and child tax credit) at the time of application.

If two applications tie: Within any oversubscribed criterion, priority by straight-line distance from home to the school gate (closest first); where two or more children are otherwise equal for the last place, names are numbered and drawn randomly, supervised by someone independent of the school.

The Federation of Barnehurst Schools (Primary First Trust), Bexley. Admissions Arrangements 2027, approved by the Trust Board December 2025; Year 3 intake September 2027 for children born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020.
