When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after children or previously looked after children — Looked after children or previously looked after children;
2. 2Exceptional medical or educational needs — Children who have exceptional medical or educational needs, which in the opinion of the Admissions Authority justify admission to a particular school;
3. 3Nearest suitable school — Children for whom the preferred school is the nearest suitable school to the pupil’s home address, giving higher priority to pupils who also meet criteria (4) below;
4. 4Sibling attending the preferred school — Pupils who will have a sister or brother attending the preferred school on the expected admission date. The ‘sibling rule’ will only be applied for the statutory period of education i.e. up to Year 11;
5. 5Other children — Other children for whom criteria 1-4 above do not apply.

If two applications tie: If there are more applications than places in any of the above categories a ‘tie breaker’ will be applied and the places will be allocated in distance order giving priority to those living nearest to the school. The Local Authority consistently uses distances that are measured on a Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping system.

Wrexham County Borough Council is the admission authority for its community and voluntary-controlled schools. Wrexham does NOT operate catchment areas: the word "catchment" does not appear anywhere in its determined 2027-2028 Parents' Guide, and places are allocated on the "nearest suitable school" test instead. Any child for whom the school is named in Section 2d of an Individual Development Plan (IDP) is admitted before the oversubscription criteria are applied. TEMPORARY AMENDMENT (September 2022 to September 2028): where the opening of the new Welsh-medium school at Borras means a family no longer meets the nearest-school test for the Welsh-medium school an older sibling attends (Bodhyfryd, Plas Coch), the Local Authority will disregard the new school when considering younger siblings at Nursery and Reception — provided the sibling on roll is of statutory school age, is still on roll in the September of entry, currently meets the nearest-school criteria, and still lives at the address under which that test was met.
