was the furthest place offered on offer day for 2025-26 (Reception). That is how far the last place reached in ONE year — not a boundary, and not a guarantee. It moves with the number of applicants, so treat it as a guide rather than a line on a map.
Last distance offered at St Oswald's Catholic Primary School, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Places will be allocated to the children who live nearest to the school. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the child's home address to a central point at the school using Wigan Council's Geographical Information System (GIS) which is based on ordnance survey. In the event of distances being the same for two or more applicants where this distance would be last place/s to be allocated, we will use a system to randomly pick who will be offered a place.
Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education Health Care Plan that names a school will be offered a place without using the admission criteria and will count as part of the school's published admission number. Sibling defined as pupils with elder brothers or sisters, including half brothers and sisters, adopted brothers or sisters living at the same address and part of the same family unit; excludes cousins or other family relationships.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
