When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after children — A child who is looked after, or previously looked after (see note 1);
2. 2Attends church in Barry Ministry Area — A child who attends a service at one of the churches within the Barry Ministry Area (see Appendix 1), on a weekly/fortnightly basis and has done so for at least the past one year;
3. 3Lives in Barry Ministry Area, attends CiW elsewhere — A child who is living in the Barry Ministry Area but who attends a Church in Wales service in another Ministry Area on a weekly/fortnightly basis and has done so for at least the past one year. A map of the Barry Ministry Area is attached in Appendix 1;
4. 4Lives outside Barry Ministry Area, attends CiW elsewhere — A child who is living outside the Barry Ministry Area and attends a Church in Wales service in another Ministry Area on a weekly/fortnightly basis and has done so for at least the past one year;
5. 5Other Christian denomination — A child who attends a Christian denomination (see note 3), other than the Church in Wales, service on a weekly/fortnightly basis and has done so for, at least, the past one year;
6. 6Other faith worship — A child who attends a place of worship, other than Christian (see note 3), on a weekly/fortnightly basis and has done so for, at least, the past one year;
7. 7Sibling attending school — A child who will have a sibling (see note 2) attending the school at the time they would be admitted were their application to be successful;
8. 8Lives in Barry Ministry Area — A child who, with their parent or guardian, lives in the Barry Ministry Area;
9. 9Other reasons — Children whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are applying for admission for other reasons.

If two applications tie: Proximity of the parent(s)/carer(s) home address to the school will be used for each criteria (after sibling priority) where the number of applications exceeds the limit of places. Proximity is measured by calculating the shortest “safe walking distance” from the School postcode (CF62 7FG) to the home postcode as measured by the Local Authority’s Geographical System (GIS).

Within any category, a child with a sibling (see note 2) already attending the School at the time of admission is prioritised ahead of others in that category before proximity is applied. Criteria for categories 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be determined strictly in the light of the signed reference from the minister of the place of worship concerned. Children with a statement of Special Educational Needs or Individual Development Plan naming the School as most appropriate will be admitted before applying the oversubscription criteria. The Governing Body may consult the ALNCo, Headteacher and Local Authority regarding applications on grounds of social or medical needs. The Governing Body reserves the right to depart from these criteria if there is compelling evidence that a child's welfare would be seriously prejudiced by non-admission. Appeals: parents may appeal to an independent panel appointed by the Diocese of Llandaff; notice of appeal should be sent to the School, who will inform the Diocesan Office for Education. Providing misleading or fraudulent information in an application may result in withdrawal of an offered place or removal of a child even after starting at the school.
