St Luke's Church of England Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2025-26 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked-after and previously looked-after children — Looked-after children and children who were previously looked after, but ceased to be so because, immediately after being looked after, they became subject to an adoption, child arrangements or special guardianship order (see Note 2 including 2021 variation to admissions code).
2. 2Children of staff employed at St Luke's — Children of staff employed at St Luke's School, subject to the conditions detailed in Note 3.
3. 3Foundation places (up to 60%, 36 places) - Criterion (i) Sibling & practising Christian — Children who will have a brother or sister (see Note 4) in the school at the time of admission whose parent is a practising member of a Christian Church (see Note 1) and live or worship within the Anglican Deanery of Tower Hamlets (see Note 5).
4. 4Foundation places - Criterion (ii) Regular attendees of Christ Church or St. Luke's Church — Children whose families are practising Christians who are regular attendees of Christ Church or St. Luke's Church. (Supplementary form completed by Father Tom Pyke or Father Ed Dix respectively)
5. 5Foundation places - Criterion (iii) Other Christian church within Deanery — Children whose families are practising Christians and attend another Christian church other than those included in the criterion above and live or worship within the Anglican Deanery of Tower Hamlets (Supplementary form completed by the Parish Priest/Minister, Church leader or Church Officer).
6. 6Open places (up to 40%, 24 places) - Criterion (i) Sibling — Children who will have a brother or sister (see Note 4) in the school at the time of admission.
7. 7Open places - Criterion (ii) Parish of Christ Church, Isle of Dogs — Children who live at an address within the Parish of Christ Church, Isle of Dogs (see Note 5). A map of the Parish is available in the School Office.
8. 8Open places - Criterion (iii) Anglican Deanery of Tower Hamlets (remaining) — Children who live at an address within the Anglican Deanery of Tower Hamlets not included in the criterion above (see Note 5). A map of the Tower Hamlets Deanery is available in the School office.
9. 9Open places - Criterion (iv) Outside the Deanery — Children who live at an address outside of the Anglican Deanery of Tower Hamlets (see Note 5).

If two applications tie: In the event of oversubscription in any of the above criteria, priority will be determined in order of straight-line distance from home to school, as measured by Tower Hamlets Council's Geographical Information System (see Note 6). Where applicants have identical distance measurements, priority amongst them will be determined at random.

Places are split into Foundation places (up to 60%, 36 places) and Open places (up to 40%, 24 places), each with their own ordered oversubscription sub-criteria, applied after two universal top priority groups (looked-after children and staff children). Unfilled Foundation places become additional Open places, and unsuccessful Foundation applicants are considered for remaining Open places. The document states the admission number of 60 'applies to the 2024.25 school year', though the policy itself is titled for admissions into Reception for 2025.26; this discrepancy is noted but the PAN figure of 60 is the only one published. Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan are addressed separately (placed by the Local Authority, reducing places available to other applicants) rather than being explicitly ranked within the ordered oversubscription criteria.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
