Kenningtons Primary Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2025-26 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After and Previously Looked After Children — 'Looked After Children' and 'Previously Looked After Children' will be given priority above all others when allocating places. 'Previously Looked After Children' shall include those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Exceptional social or medical reasons — A child where there are exceptional social or medical reasons for admission to the school. These reasons, and any supporting evidence, (e.g. from a social worker or doctor) must be submitted direct to the school at the same time that application for admission is made to the Local Authority. The Admissions Committee of the Governing Body will consider such applications.
3. 3Children of staff — Children of staff at the school. Staff shall mean teaching staff and non-teaching staff employed by Kenningtons Primary Academy, whether full or part time, and where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two years or more at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made.
4. 4Priority admission area – sibling — Children living in the priority admission area of the school who, at the date of admission, have a brother or sister attending Kenningtons Primary Academy. This includes full siblings, step siblings, half siblings, adopted siblings and long term foster siblings living at the same address.
5. 5Priority admission area – other children — Other children living in the priority admission area of the school.
6. 6Outside priority admission area – sibling — Children living outside the priority admission area of the school who, at the date of admission, have a brother or sister attending the school. This includes full siblings, step siblings, half siblings, adopted siblings and long term foster siblings living at the same address.
7. 7Outside priority admission area – other children — Other children living outside the priority admission area of the school.

If two applications tie: In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by the proximity of the child's normal place of residence to the school, as measured in a straight line using the Local Authority's digital mapping system as the final tie-breaker. The measurement is taken from the front door of the home address to the main school gate. In circumstances where more than one child is entitled to the same place the place will be offered using the random allocation system (a lottery). This process will be administered by the school and supervised by an independent witness.

The policy does not explicitly reference EHCPs being admitted first, though this is required by the School Admissions Code. Children attending Kenningtons Nursery are not automatically admitted to Reception; a separate application must be made. The Priority Admission Area is defined by a published list of roads. Multiple births may be admitted as 'excepted' pupils beyond the infant class size limit of 30.
