How are Reception places decided at Avenue Primary Academy?

When Avenue Primary Academy has more applications than places for 2027-28, they are offered in a published order of priority: 1. Priority 1 – Looked After Children and Previously Looked After Children — A looked after child, or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order, including those who appear to the admission authority to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. An application under the looked after criterion must be supported by a letter from the relevant Local Authority Children's Services Department; under the previously looked after criterion a copy of the adoption or child arrangements order must also be supplied; 2. Priority 2 – Siblings — Children with a brother or sister who is reasonably expected to be in attendance at the school at the time of the enrolment of the new pupil. A sibling is a brother or sister, half brother or sister, step brother or sister, adopted brother or sister or the child of the parent/carer's partner, in every case living as part of the family unit at the same address, Monday to Friday. Siblings in Year 6 or nursery at the time of application to start Reception in 2027 will not qualify as a sibling for admission; 3. Priority 3 – Medical — Children with serious medical reasons for needing to attend the school. A serious and continuing medical condition of a parent which would prevent them taking their child to school may also be relevant. Supporting evidence must set out why the school is the most suitable and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend another school, and must be verified by a doctor or consultant. Providing evidence does not guarantee priority; the Trust's Admissions Panel considers whether the evidence demonstrates that the child must attend this particular school, and 2 further criteria. The school offers 120 places at this entry point. Tie-break: Distance is used as a tiebreaker for each oversubscription criterion. Where distance is the same for two or more applications, the child to be allocated is selected randomly by the Local Admissions System.
