The Magna Carta School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after children — Highest priority to looked-after children and all previously looked-after children who apply for a place at the school.
2. 2Social or medical need — Children on the basis of exceptional social or medical need relating to the child or parent/carer, supported by evidence from a professional (e.g. doctor/consultant for medical, or social worker/health visitor/housing officer/police/probation officer for social), confirming why the child should attend this school and why no other school could meet the child's needs. Common medical conditions/allergies and routine childminding arrangements would not normally qualify.
3. 3Children of staff — Children of staff employed at the school for 2 or more years at the time of application, or recruited to fill a vacant post with a demonstrable skill shortage. Supported by a Supplementary Information Form.
4. 4Siblings — Children with siblings still on roll at the school at the time of admission. A sibling of the same parents is a brother or sister whether or not living at the same address; fostered, adopted, step- and half-siblings living at the same address also count.
5. 5Named feeder schools — Children who attend named feeder schools: The Hythe School, Thorpe Lea Primary School, Manorcroft School, St. Ann's Heath Junior School, St. Jude's Church of England Junior School, Thorpe Church of England Primary School and Lyne and Longcross C of E (Aided) Primary School.
6. 6Remaining applicants, by distance — Remaining applicants based on the distance they live from the school, with children living nearest having higher priority.

If two applications tie: Within each priority, where there are more applicants than places, priority goes to children who live nearest the school, measured in a straight line from the Ordnance-Survey address point of the student's home to the nearest school gate available for student use (Surrey County Council's GIS). Where two or more children share a priority (e.g. same distance), the school draws lots. If the school has one place to offer and the next child on the waiting list is one of twins/triplets/other multiple-birth children, all of that multiple birth are offered a place, even temporarily exceeding the PAN.

All children whose EHC plan names the school are admitted before any other places are allocated (stated ahead of the numbered list, not itself a numbered criterion). For staff-children applications, length of employment is assessed as of the closing date for normal-round applications, but as of the date of application/date a place becomes available for in-year applications and the waiting list. Requests for accelerated or decelerated entry (outside the normal age group) are considered on individual merits and processed as part of the main admissions round where possible, using the same oversubscription criteria, without being treated as lower priority.
