Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2026-27 (Year 7), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
Last distance offered at Thomas Gainsborough School, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: In the event of oversubscription, priority will be determined by the proximity of the child's home to Thomas Gainsborough, measured as a straight line ('as the crow flies'), calculated electronically by Suffolk County Council. If two or more applicants live the same distance from the School, the place will be offered on the basis of lots drawn by a person independent of the School.
Document covers admissions for Years 7–11; the ordered oversubscription criteria apply specifically to the normal Year 7 entry round for September 2027 (2027-28). Sixth Form admissions are governed by a separate policy.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
