How places are decided at St Mary's Church of England Primary School, Hadleigh

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Children in care / previously in care — Children in care (looked after children) and children who were previously in care (children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order, immediately following having been in care, including those who appear [to the admission authority] to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted).
2Refugee children in Hadleigh Benefice area — Children with confirmed refugee status who live in the Hadleigh Benefice area (Hadleigh, Layham and Shelley).
2Service pupil premium — Children eligible for the service pupil premium with a confirmed posting.
3Sibling — Sibling: where the child has a sibling in the school or a sibling has already been offered a place at the school, and where the sibling will still be attending the school at the time of admission. Priority will be given, where necessary, to applications where there is the smallest age gap, measured in calendar days between the child's date of birth and the date of birth of any sibling already attending the school, or who has been offered a place at the time of application. The term 'sibling' includes: natural, half, step, and adopted brothers and sisters; a child of the partner of the parent; and children who are fostered into the family. In all these cases, the child and their sibling will both be living at the same address (that is where the child is ordinarily resident) in a single-family unit. This means that children from different family units, where those separate families are living together at the same address, are not considered siblings under this criterion.
4Nearest within parishes — Children who are ordinarily resident in the parishes of Hadleigh, Layham or Shelley who live nearest to the school. We will measure the distance by a straight line ('as the crow flies').
5Nearest outside parishes — Children who are ordinarily resident outside the parishes of Hadleigh, Layham or Shelley who live nearest to the school. We will measure the distance by a straight line ('as the crow flies') as set out in criterion 4 above.

If two applications tie: In the event of a tie within any of the oversubscription criteria, i.e. the Published Admissions Number (PAN) of 30 is reached within a group of applicants in any of the criteria, then all the applicants under that criterion will be ranked according to their distance from the school and places will be offered (until the PAN of 30 is reached) to those living nearest to the school. In the unlikely event of two or more applicants living the same distance from the school and competing for a single place, lots will be drawn by someone independent of the school to determine the successful applicant.

Criteria numbered as printed in the document, including duplicate rank '2' for two separate criteria (refugee status and service pupil premium). Sibling tie-breaker uses smallest age gap in calendar days; multiples (twins/triplets) admitted together per published rule even above infant class size limit.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
