Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2026-27 (Reception), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
Last distance offered at St Margaret's CEVAP School, Ipswich, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Sibling tie-breaker: Priority will be given, where necessary, to applications where there is the smallest age gap in calendar days between the child’s date of birth and the date of birth of any sibling already attending the school, or who has been offered a place at the time of application. In the unlikely event that two applicants competing for a single place at a school have the same number of days difference in age from their closest aged sibling, the place will be offered to one applicant on the basis of lots drawn by a person who is independent to the school. Distance tie-breaker: In the event of a tie within any of the other categories, the determining factor will be the distance from the home to the School, measured by a straight line (‘as the crow flies’). In the unlikely event of two or more applications being equal in every respect including distance from the School and those applications being for the last place then lots will be drawn by a person who is independent of the School.
Foundation category offers up to 40 places; Open category offers at least 20 remaining places. All applications considered first for a foundation place, then unsuccessful foundation applications considered for an open place.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
