Summerbank Primary Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Children in care / previously in care — Children in care and children who ceased to be in care because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship order), including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Exceptional medical/social circumstances causing hardship — Children whose current exceptional circumstances satisfy both of the following tests: Test 1: the child is distinguished from the great majority of other applicants either on their own individual medical grounds which requires regular and sustained medical treatment or by other extreme exceptional circumstances... and Test 2: the child will suffer hardship if they were unable to attend the preferred school/ academy rather than any other school/ academy.
3. 3Sibling attending the school — Children who have an elder sibling in attendance at the preferred school / academy (or in the case of an infants school / academy, the affiliated Junior school / academy) and who will still be attending the school / academy at the proposed admission date; (For admission purposes, a brother or sister is a child who lives at the same home address and either: have one or both natural parents in common; are related by a parents marriage; are adopted or fostered by a common parent or are unrelated children who live at the same home address, whose parents live as partners.)
4. 4On roll at affiliated nursery and eligible for early years pupil premium — Children who are, at the time of the application, listed on the roll of the nursery which is part of or run by the preferred school / academy (as set out in the table on page 13) and who, at the time of the application, qualify for the early years' pupil premium.
5. 5Children of staff — Children of staff in either or both of the following circumstances: a) where the member of staff has been employed at the school / academy for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school / academy is made and/or b) the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
6. 6Catchment area — Children living within the catchment area of the preferred school / academy.
7. 7Distance from home to school — Other children arranged in order of priority according to how near their home addresses are to the main gate of the school / academy, determined by a straight-line measurement as calculated by the relevant Local Authority's Geographical Information System.

If two applications tie: If there are a limited number of spaces available and we cannot distinguish between applicants using the criteria listed, such as in the case of children who live in the same block of flats or are the result of a multiple birth, then the child or children who will be offered the available spaces will be randomly selected. This process will be independently verified.

EHCP: In accordance with legislation, children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names a particular school / academy as being the most appropriate to meet the child's needs must be admitted to that school / academy. This will reduce the amount of places available to other applicants. PAN for this specific school not stated in supplied excerpt (referenced tables on pages 12/13 not included). Infant class size legislation may limit catchment/sibling offers once a class reaches 30 pupils, with an exception for multiple-birth siblings. CATCHMENT: Children living within the catchment area of the preferred school / academy. Transcribed from the school's own determined admission arrangements as published by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Children with an EHCP naming the school are admitted first; that is a statutory duty, not an oversubscription criterion.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
