When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Relevant Looked After Children (LAC) and Previously Looked After Children (PLAC) who ceased to be in care after because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order), including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted (IAPLAC);

3. 3Students with an elder sibling at the school — Students who have an elder sibling in attendance at the school and who will still be attending at the proposed admission date; (for admission purposes, a sibling is a child who lives at the same address and who is the brother/sister, half-brother/sister [children who share one common parent], or step brother/step sister where two children are related by marriage. This definition also includes adopted or fostered children living at the same address.)
4. 4Children of staff at the school — Children of Cannock Chase High School employees in either or both of the following circumstances: (a) Where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or: (b) Children of Cannock Chase High School employees where a member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
5. 5Medical or exceptional social circumstances with hardship — Students who satisfy both of the following criteria. 1: They are distinguished from the great majority of applicants either on medical grounds or by other exceptional circumstances. Medical grounds must be supported by a medical report (obtained by the parents). It must clearly justify, for health reasons only, why it is better for the child to attend Cannock Chase High School rather than any other school. Exceptional circumstances must relate to the choice of school, i.e. the circumstances of the child, not the economic or social circumstances of the parent. They should be supported by a professional report, e.g. social worker, justifying why it is better for the child to attend the Cannock Chase High School rather than any other school. 2: They would suffer hardship if they were unable to attend the Cannock Chase High School. Hardship means severe suffering of any kind, not merely difficulty or inconvenience, which is likely to be experienced as a result of the child attending a different school. Parents must provide detailed information about both the type and severity of any likely hardship.
6. 6Nearness of home address to the school — Other students arranged in order of priority according to how near their home addresses are to the main gate of the school by the straight line distance as measured by the Local Authority's Geographical Information Systems.

In accordance with legislation, children who have a statutory Education Health and Care Plan that names the school as being the most appropriate to meet the child's needs, will be admitted. This may reduce the amount of places available to other applicants. Waiting list operated in admission criteria order until end of December each year.
