When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Children in care / previously in care / internationally adopted previously looked after children — Children in care* are those who are in the care of a local authority or being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (as defined in Section 22 of the Children Act 1989) at the time of making an application to a school... Children previously in care* are those who were in care/looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted; (or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship order). Internationally adopted previously looked after children* are those who appear to South Gloucestershire Council to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Local siblings — Local siblings: In South Gloucestershire children are defined as local siblings if: they live within the APR (Area of Prime Responsibility); or, where there is no APR, local siblings will be deemed to be those living up to a maximum of three miles from school by straight line measurement; or, where the distance is over three miles but the school is still the nearest school; And they are full or half brother or sister; or they are adoptive brother or sister; or they are children of the same household; And the sibling is already in attendance at the preferred school and will be in attendance at the time of admission (statutory school age only).
3. 3Geographical considerations: children living within the APR — Children living within the APR: Where there are more applications for children living within an Area of Prime Responsibility than places available, priority will be given to applications from within the defined area who live closest to the preferred school. In the case of South Gloucestershire infant and primary schools which do not have Areas of Prime Responsibility, places will be allocated to those children living closest to the school.
4. 4Out of area siblings — Out of area siblings: siblings living outside the APR for the school: In South Gloucestershire children are defined as out of area siblings if they live outside the Area of Prime Responsibility for the school; And they are full or half brother or sister; or they are adoptive brother or sister; or they are children of the same household And the sibling is already in attendance at the preferred school and will be in attendance at the time of admission (statutory school age only).
5. 5Geographical considerations: children living outside the APR — Geographical Considerations; Children living outside the APR for the school: Where there are more applications for children living outside an Area of Prime Responsibility than places available, priority will be given to applications from those who live closest to the preferred school.

If two applications tie: Where it does not prove possible to resolve allocations to an over-subscribed school by the application of criteria 1-5, any remaining places will be allocated by drawing lots. Lots will be drawn by a senior officer of South Gloucestershire Council who is independent of the school admissions process.

Local-authority coordinated default oversubscription criteria for South Gloucestershire Council's community and voluntary-controlled schools (the council is the admission authority). Some community/voluntary-controlled schools in this authority apply catchment-area, feeder-school or priority-area variants — check the individual school for its exact arrangements. Some schools have an Area of Prime Responsibility (APR) which affects application of criteria; Brimsham Green Community secondary school has an additional 'First Area of Responsibility' given priority before the APR.
