Wood Green Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2025-26 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — A ‘looked after child’ or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order including those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions as defined by section 22 (1) of the Children Act 1989 at the time of making the application for a school place.
2. 2Sibling in priority admission area — Children residing in the priority admission area with a brother or sister (sibling) attending the school at the time of application with a reasonable expectation they will be on roll at the school at the date of proposed admission. This includes siblings in the sixth form.
3. 3Children in priority admission area by distance — Children residing in the priority admission area, priority being given to such children by the shortest Distance from School (see definition below).
4. 4Sibling outside priority admission area — Children residing outside the priority admission area with a brother or sister (sibling) attending the school at the time of application with a reasonable expectation they will be on roll at the school at the date of proposed admission. This includes siblings in the sixth form.
5. 5Children outside priority admission area by distance — Children residing outside the priority admission area, priority being given to such children by the shortest Distance from School.

Wood Green Academy is a Specialist Sports College and admits 10% of PAN (up to 26 places) on Sporting Aptitude; remaining places allocated per criteria above if insufficient sporting applicants; sporting aptitude test does not override higher priority. Children with statements of Special Educational Needs naming the academy must also be admitted (this is a statutory duty, noted here rather than as a ranked criterion). Waiting list maintained until end of December 2023 by LA and end of academic year July 2024 by academy (dates as printed, may be inconsistent with 2025 cohort). CATCHMENT: The priority admission area (catchment area) is the Wednesbury North Ward. Transcribed from the school's own determined admission arrangements as published by Sandwell MBC. Children with an EHCP naming the school are admitted first; that is a statutory duty, not an oversubscription criterion. | Previously recorded here: How places were allocated: council publication.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
