Wales High School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children — Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children (see note (a) below).
2. 2Exceptional medical reason — Children who, at the time of application, have a specific medical reason, supported by independent professional medical evidence, which Wales High School is satisfied makes attendance at this particular school essential.
3. 3Exceptional social reason — Children who, at the time of application, have a compelling social reason, supported by independent professional evidence, which Wales High School is satisfied makes attendance at this particular school essential. The kind of overriding social reasons which could be accepted are where there is evidence that the children’s education would be seriously impaired if he or she did not attend this school.
4. 4Catchment area with sibling — Children who, at time of application, live in the catchment area of the school as defined by Wales High School and it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of this school in Years 8-11 at the start of the academic year 2027 (see notes (b), (c) and (d) below).
5. 5Catchment area — Children who, at time of application, live in the catchment area of this school as defined by Wales High School (see note (b) below).
6. 6Sibling (outside catchment) — Children who, at time of application, it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of this school in Years 8-11 at the start of the academic year 2027 (see notes (c) and (d) below).
7. 7Associated primary/junior schools — Children who, at time of application, are on the roll of one of our associated primary/junior/junior and infant catchment area schools as identified by Wales High School (see note (j) below).
8. 8Nearest distance — Children who, at time of application, live nearest to the school measured by a straight line on a horizontal plane, (commonly known as measurement 'as the crow flies').

If two applications tie: Where the published admission number for the school is likely to be reached mid category, places will be prioritised within that category by reference to the distance between the home address and the school. Highest priority will be given to those who, at time of application, live closest to the school measured in a straight line on a horizontal plane. Where there are insufficient places for two or more children living in the same building or otherwise equidistant, the final place will be allocated by the simple drawing of lots by an appropriately qualified person independent of Wales High School.

After the allocation of places to children with an EHCP naming the school, remaining places are allocated in the listed order. Associated Primary (Feeder) Schools are referenced as listed on page 23 of the booklet, not provided in this extract.
