Kilnhurst Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Relevant Looked After Children and previously looked after children refer to 3.2.
2. 2Exceptional confirmed medical need — Children who, on 15th January 2027, have an exceptional, confirmed medical need which the Admission Authority is satisfied makes attendance at this school essential, due to its unique ability to meet that need. This does not include common conditions that can be managed by many mainstream schools. Requires a letter from an independent medical consultant/specialist detailing diagnosis and explaining why needs can only be met at this school; assessed by a panel.
3. 3Compelling and verifiable social need — Children who on 15th January 2027, have a compelling and verifiable social need which the Admission Authority is satisfied can only be met at this school, and which, if not met, would cause significant and lasting detriment to the child's well-being or seriously impair their educational progress. Requires independent written evidence from a relevant professional; assessed by a panel. Very few cases are agreed annually.
4. 4Catchment area with sibling in Years 1-6 — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live in the catchment area of this school as defined by the Admissions Authority and it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of this school in Years 1-6 at the start of the academic year 2027
5. 5Catchment area — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live in the catchment area of the school as defined by the Admissions Authority.
6. 6Sibling in Years 1-6 (not in catchment) — Children who, on 15th January 2027, it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of the preferred school in Years 1-6 at the start of the academic year 2027.
7. 7Nearest distance (crow flies) — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live nearest to the school measured by a straight line on a horizontal plane, (commonly known as measurement 'as the crow flies').

If two applications tie: In the event of oversubscription with any criterion preference will be given to children who live nearest to the school as the crow flies.

This is a single trust-wide policy applied by White Woods Primary Academy Trust to multiple named schools including Kilnhurst Primary School. EHCP-named children are admitted before this list, per statutory requirement (not numbered as a criterion). Additional general notes (e.g. tie-break by lots for equal distances, multiple births treated equally, equal preference co-ordinated admissions scheme, deferred entry, admission outside normal age group) appear earlier in the document as general provisions applicable to all Trust schools, not as numbered oversubscription criteria.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
