When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children — Children Looked After (in the care of the Local Authority)
2. 2Church in Wales families — Children from Church in Wales families (Confirmation will be sought of Parish Clergy as to the extent of the Church connection)
3. 3Other Christian Churches — Other children who attend other Christian Churches
4. 4Siblings — Children will siblings (brothers or sisters) already attending the School. (This would include half and adoptive brothers or sisters)
5. 5Other children — Other children whose families wish their child to be educated in a Church in Wales School

If two applications tie: In the event that there are excessive demands for places from “Church” pupils resident in parishes other than Aberdare, available places will be allocated to those living nearest to the school. The closest distance, in this instance, being that between home and the school measured by the shortest, safest walking route.

Admissions will not be determined on the basis of selection criteria involving the setting of tests, inspection of school reports, or interviews of pupils (with or without parents) for the purpose of assessing the ability or aptitude; but may be directed to Church commitment. The school is part of the co-ordinated admissions arrangements with Rhondda Cynon Taf and there is a requirement that parents with children in Nursery and Year 6 complete applications for Reception and Year 7 via the local authority online portal. For Nursery admissions please request an admission form directly from the school as part of the process for applying for a place. The information will be kept on a waiting list until the child is eligible for admission. This will not give an automatic entitlement to a place. Families whose application to the school has been unsuccessful have the right to appeal; when an application is refused, and the matter cannot be resolved informally, the right of appeal will exist to a specially constituted Appeals Committee, administered by the Llandaff Diocesan Board of Education according to the Welsh Government's Code of Practice on School Admission Appeals.
