When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Elder sibling, household inside the primary catchment area — The presence of an elder sibling residing at the same household, with the household being within the primary catchment area of the school, when the pupil commences at the school. To qualify, primary siblings must be in Reception to Year 6 and, in the case of an all-age school, secondary siblings must be in Years 7 – 13.
2. 2Household inside the primary catchment area — The location of the household if it is within the current primary catchment area of the school.
3. 3Medical and social needs — Any medical and social needs relating to the individual child where attendance at particular school is essential. Evidence will be required to accompany the application form.
4. 4Elder sibling, household outside the primary catchment area — The presence of an elder sibling residing at the same household, with the household being outside of the current primary catchment area of the school, when the pupil commences at the school. To qualify, primary siblings must be in Reception to Year 6 and in the case of an all-age school, secondary siblings must be in Years 7 – 13.
5. 5Location of the household relative to this and alternative schools — The location of the household in relation to the school and alternative schools if it is outside the current primary catchment area of the school.

If two applications tie: Places will be allocated based on the safest, shortest, practicable walking route to the school, in strict order of distance, up to the number of places available, with the highest priority being given to the pupil living closest to the school. The distance will be measured from the closest access point on the public highway to the pupil's ordinary place of residence which is nearest to the school and measured to the nearest school gate. MapInfo Geographical Information System is used to measure all distances.

NOTE THE ORDER — Powys ranks a sibling WITHIN the catchment area ABOVE catchment residence alone, so a family in the catchment with an older child already at the school outranks a family in the catchment without one. Siblings must live in the same household; the term includes half-siblings, step-siblings, adopted children, and children looked after or previously looked after. Siblings who join a secondary school for sixth form only (Years 12 and 13), or who attend a sixth form on a dual basis under a collaboration arrangement, do NOT count as a sibling at the school. Ordinary place of residence is the residence of the parent/carer who receives Child Benefit for the pupil, including where parents share responsibility; the child must reside and sleep there for the majority of the week. Only one application may be made from one address; where parents have joint custody, a decision on preference must be reached before applying, if necessary via the Courts.
