How places are decided at Blackford Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (P1), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Authority placements for exceptional needs take precedence — The Authority may determine that particular pupils are to be placed in any school in order to meet specific educational or other exceptional needs, as determined by the Authority. These placements take priority over any of the five priorities. Placement may be recommended within a special school or provision when a child's educational needs cannot be met in their catchment school.

If two applications tie: Within each priority: baptism in the appropriate faith first at denominational schools; attendance at an associated primary school first at secondary schools (longest attendance first); then the single criterion of distance from the specified school, closest first.

If multiple placing requests are submitted the Council is only obliged to consider the first preference, and all first-preference requests are considered before any others. A placing request is treated as the first choice of school, so a place at the catchment school cannot be guaranteed if it fails. Waiting lists are kept in priority order only for the August placing period, until the first day of session. A pupil attending a non-catchment primary by placing request is offered the secondary school for the catchment in which they live. If no space exists in the catchment school the Authority zones the child to the closest school with space and provides transport beyond 2 miles (primary) or 3 miles (secondary). For session 2024/25, 266 P1 placing requests were made, 205 granted and 61 refused (15 from outwith Perth and Kinross); 105 S1 requests, 90 granted and 15 refused; 9 appeals were heard by the Education Appeal Committee.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
