When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 5), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — ‘Looked after’ children or ‘previously looked after’ children i.e. children who were previously looked after but ceased to be because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order (formerly a residence order) or a special guardianship order and including children previously in state care outside of England who have ceased to be in that state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Residence in the school's catchment area — Children with a normal home address in the school’s catchment area, on whose behalf firm evidence is presented that they will be living in the catchment area by the appropriate admissions date. The school’s catchment area as defined by Cheviot Learning Trust and available on the Northumberland County Council “school catchment area digital maps”.
3. 3Residence in the school's catchment area — Cheviot Learning Trust Schools. Children with a normal home address outside the school’s catchment area but who are on roll at a Cheviot Learning Trust school which is also an official feeder school of Dr Thomlinson Middle School (namely, Harbottle C of E First School & Thropton Village First School).
4. 4Residence in the school's catchment area — Dr Thomlinson Feeder Schools. Children with a home address outside the school’s catchment area, but who are on roll at a Morpeth Partnership school which is also an official feeder school of Dr Thomlinson Middle School (namely, Rothbury First School and Longhorsley Church of England First School)
5. 5Sibling link — Siblings. Children who have an older brother or sister who already attends Dr Thomlinson Middle School and who are still expected to be on roll at the school at the time of admission on the admission date. 6 0 |
6. 6Church School status — Church School status. Children of parents / carers who worship regularly and frequently within the Church of England or another Christian Church (see note 5) who wish their children to attend this school because of its Christian foundation. (Regularly and frequently is defined as attendance at least once per month over the last twelve months. It is sufficient for just one parent/carer to attend).
7. 7Other children — Other children.

A child with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school is admitted first; that is not an oversubscription criterion. Northumberland runs a three-tier pattern in parts of the county, so entry is at Year 5 (middle), Year 7 (secondary) or Year 9 (high).
