St Malachy's Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (P1), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Children who are regarded by the Board of Governors as having special circumstances (social, medical, security or ‘Looked After Children’). The special circumstances must be made known at the time of application. Any application to be considered under this criterion must be clearly identified using the term “special circumstances”. It must provide names and addresses of statutory bodies from whom the Board of Governors reserve the right to seek confirmation of the existence of special circumstances.
2. 2Children who, at the date of the application, have sister/ brother (including half-sister/half-brother, foster sister/foster brother, stepsister/stepbrother or adopted) presently enrolled in the school. St Malachy's Primary School 11 Martin's Lane Carnagat Newry Maintained Primary School
3. 3Children whose parent(s)/ guardian(s) reside in the Parish of Middle Killeavy and the traditional catchment areas of Upper Killeavy Parish up to and including Ravens Glen, Chancellors Road (map available).
4. 4Children who have attended St Malachy's Nursery School.
5. 5Children whose parent(s)/guardian(s) is currently a permanent member of the school staff (full time or part time position).
6. 6The remaining places will be allocated on the basis of the proximity of the child’s home to the school priority being given to those living nearest to the school as measured by Google Maps UK walking distance.
7. 7If the final places to be allocated have identical measurements, as identified by Google Maps UK, walking distance selection will be on the initial letter of the child’s surname (as entered on the birth certificate) in the order set out below. A O E R C K D P J G U F X L S M H N W B V I Y T Z Q This order was determined by a random selection of letters of the alphabet and will change each year. In the event of surnames beginning with the same letter, the subsequent letters of the name will be used in alphabetical order. In the event of two identical surnames the order of the initials of the forenames will be used, and if necessary, the subsequent letters of the forenames. Criterion 7 will also be used to discriminate within any oversubscribed criterion.

Northern Ireland open-enrolment admissions criteria, as published by the Education Authority for entry in September 2026.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
