When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Year 8), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

2. 2Pupils whose normal place of residence is within the parishes of Upper Creggan, Mullaghbawn, Forkhill and the Cullyhanna and Dorsey areas (as traditionally defined under the former Maintained Schools Agreement) of the parish of Lower Creggan, not listed in any order of preference, and who attend Primary Schools other than those listed in 1 above.

8. 8Those pupils whose Transfer Form expresses a fourth preference for St. Joseph’s High School.
9. 9Those pupils whose Transfer Form expresses a fifth preference for St. Joseph’s High School. In the event that, at any stage of the above sub-criteria being applied, there is more than one applicant for the final place, a random selection will be made to complete the admissions selection. *The use of the word sibling covers children fostered and adopted and avoids having to define all various permutations of sibling. **Eligible – The Board of Governors defines ‘eligible’ as fulfilling reasonable circumstances where a child who has attended a school listed in Category A3 but whose family was resident at an address outside the catchment area when the first child transferred, or that the first child, with a Statement of Special Educational Needs was placed in a school commensurate with their needs and by default could not attend St. Joseph’s High School. In either instance, verified documentation will have to be produced which authenticate the situation. The Board of Governors will reserve the right to determine ‘eligibility’. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to inform the school, at the time of application of the above. NOTES 1. Details of Special Circumstances must be given on or attached to the Transfer Form. Documentary evidence supporting the Special Circumstances must be provided by a statutory body. 2. Inaccurate or misleading information provided on or attached to a Transfer Form may prejudice an offer of a place and may lead to the withdrawal of a place awarded to an applicant who has thereby gained an improper advantage.

Northern Ireland open-enrolment admissions criteria, as published by the Education Authority for entry in September 2026.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
