Willen Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Children who are looked after (LAC) and all previously looked after children (PLAC) including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted (IAPLAC).
2. 2Children of staff (2+ years employed) — Children of staff who have been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or
3. 3Children of staff (skill shortage post) — Children of staff who are recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. It is at the absolute discretion of the Headteacher to determine when there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
4. 4Siblings within catchment area — Siblings of children who are attending the school at the time allocations are made and are expected to be on roll at the school at the time of the proposed admission and the place of residence is within the catchment area of the school. Proof of permanent residence may be required.
5. 5Within catchment area, no sibling — The child's place of residence is within the catchment area of the school and there is no sibling.
6. 6Siblings outside catchment area — Siblings of children who are attending the school at the time allocations are made and are expected to be on roll at the school at the time of the proposed admission and the place of residence is outside of the catchment area of the school.
7. 7Outside catchment, named preference — Children who live outside the catchment area but name Willen Primary as a preference.
8. 8Outside catchment area — Children who live outside the catchment area.

If two applications tie: Distance between the applicant's residence and the School will be used as a tiebreaker with those living nearest to the School given priority. Distance is measured from the main entrance to the front door of the applicant's permanent residence in a straight line using appropriate computer software. In the event of two or more applicants at a flat or multi occupancy dwelling vying for the last available place, a lottery will be used which will be independently supervised.

The document header states '2027-2028 Admissions Arrangements' but the body text references 'academic year 2026 to 2027' and 'September 2027 entry'. The cohort_start_year is taken as 2027 based on the Reception entry date stated. Catchment area is Willen, Willen Park and Bolbeck Park.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
