Heronshill School and Nursery

When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after or previously looked after children — Looked after or previously looked after children. A 'looked after child' is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989) at the time of making an application to a school. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order).
2. 2Nursery children in defined area — Children attending Heronshill School Nursery who also live in the school’s defined area.
3. 3Sibling in defined area — Children who live in the school’s defined area and have a sibling on roll at the time of admission.
4. 4Nursery children outside defined area with sibling — Children attending Heronshill School Nursery who live outside the defined area and have a sibling on roll at the time of admission.
5. 5Nursery children outside defined area — Children attending Heronshill School Nursery who live outside the defined area.
6. 6Children in defined area — Children who live in the defined area served by the school.
7. 7Children of staff — Children of staff employed by IFtL (Inspiring Futures through Learning). Children of staff may only be given priority where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application to the school is made, and/or a member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
8. 8Children outside defined area — Children who live outside the defined area.

If two applications tie: In the event of over subscription following the application of the criteria above, places will be allocated according to the proximity of the child's home to the school. The shortest route between Heronshill School and the normal home address is measured using a computerised geographical information system.

Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEND) or an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC) naming Heronshill School will be given priority for admission within the normal admission round, in accordance with national regulations, before the numbered oversubscription criteria apply. Infant class size limit of 15 applies. Defined area described geographically.
