Tie-break: If there is more than one placing request in any of the priority groups listed above, the distance between home and school is measured using streets and/or footpaths by an online mapping site, from the front door of the home address to the closest school gate; this might be the main school entrance or a rear entrance. 2Catchment children prioritised on exceptional circumstances — Catchment children who have been prioritised based on exceptional circumstances.

Attendance at an associated primary school (for requests in Secondary 1) will not be taken into account.

Reserved places: one place per P1 class (and per teacher where team teaching applies) and one place per 40 pupils in S1 are reserved for incoming catchment children for the whole year, more where house building warrants; for Roman Catholic schools reserved places are granted only to catchment baptised Roman Catholic children. A child not granted a catchment place is allocated the nearest school in the associated school group with places and goes on the catchment school's waiting list. Gaelic Medium Education for Midlothian residents is provided by the City of Edinburgh Council (Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce and the unit at James Gillespie's High School) with transport provided. Midlothian has the fastest-growing population of any Scottish authority and catchments are under review.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
