Distance depends on the band here
Brompton Academy admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Brompton Academy is an all-ability Academy; all applicants must take a Fair Banding test (prescribed by GL Assessments, formerly NFER) to secure an all-ability intake representative of the national ability range. It is explicitly not a 'pass or fail' test. The test is administered during September/October of Year 6 (a year ahead of entry); applicants are split into one of five ability bands based on scores within the national profile, including those with SEN and children in care. Criteria a)-d) above are then applied within each band (after the automatic admissions in ranks 1-3, which apply across bands). Students who have not taken the banding test (apart from Children in Care and those with an EHCP naming the Academy) are considered after those who sat the test.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: d) Random selection within bands: in the unlikely event that two or more children in all other ways have equal eligibility for the last available place, the names will be allocated a number and drawn randomly.
PAN of 240 includes 20 places per year group in the designated Eliot SEN Communications Centre for young people who have an EHCP.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
