Kibworth Mead Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked after Children and Previously Looked after Children (Note i). A 'looked after child' is a child in the care of, or accommodated by, a local authority; 'previously looked after' includes children who ceased to be looked after through adoption, a child arrangements order or special guardianship order, including those who appear to have been in state care outside of England.
2. 2Serious medical condition or exceptional social/domestic needs — Pupils who have a serious medical condition or exceptional social or domestic needs that make it essential that they attend the school requested. Professional documentation confirming the situation must be submitted with the application (Note ii). Exceptional areas include a serious medical condition or exceptional illness/disability, Child Protection Plans/Child in Need Plans, or parents suffering domestic violence, each requiring documentary evidence from an independent professional.
3. 3Sibling at the school — Pupils who will have an older sibling attending the same school at the same time (Note iii).
4. 4Pupil Premium (32 places) — 32 children who are eligible for the Pupil Premium (Note iv): children currently registered as eligible for free school meals, or who have been registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years.
5. 5Children of staff — Children of members of staff (teaching and support staff) on a permanent contract (Note v): where the staff member has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time of application, and/or is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. The staff member must be employed by The Mead Educational Trust and have worked at Kibworth Mead Academy for at least 2 years.
6. 6Distance — Pupils living nearest to the school measured in a straight-line distance (home to school front gate) (Note vi), to three decimal places, using a geographical information system from the Geo-code reference point for the child's home address to the Geo-code reference point for the School. Applicants living in the same block of flats are regarded as living the same distance from the School.

If two applications tie: If two or more applications have identical ranking following application of all the above criteria in priority order, lots will be drawn. The drawing of lots will be undertaken by a senior officer in the Children and Families Department, supervised by an officer of Leicestershire County Council from another department that is independent of the School Admissions Service.

Places will be allocated to pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names Kibworth Mead Academy before any other allocations are made; this is not numbered within the 1st-6th oversubscription criteria so is not listed as a criterion. The school relinquished its catchment area in 2017 in favour of the distance model (per the policy's revision history); no catchment area or feeder schools are used.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
