When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked after children and those who have been previously looked after, including those children who appear to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted (see note (x) below)
2. 2Exceptional medical, social or welfare reasons — Children for whom the Trust accepts that there are exceptional medical, social or welfare reasons which are directly relevant to the school concerned. (See note (ii) below)
3. 3Children of staff — Children of staff. Where the member of staff has been employed at Southlands High School for two or more years at the time at which the admissions application for the school is made, and/or where a member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. Parents and carers must state the employee's name on their admission application form (details will be validated by the school)
4. 4In-area siblings — Children living within the school's geographical priority area with older brothers or sisters attending the school when the younger child will start, (see note iii below)
5. 5In-area children — Children living within the school's geographical priority area
6. 6Out-of-area siblings — Children living outside the school's geographical priority area with older brothers or sisters still attending the school when the younger child will start (see note (iii) below)
7. 7Out-of-area children — Children living outside the school's geographical priority area (see note (iv) below)

If two applications tie: The distance between the school and the home will be used as the final determining factor. The distance measure is a straight-line measurement (radial) between the applicant's home address points and the address point of the school (co-ordinates provided by ordnance survey data). Where the cut-off point is for addresses within the same building, then the single measure between address points will apply and the Trust's system of a random draw will determine which address(es) receive the offer(s) as an effective, clear and fair tie breaker.

PAN is 150 from September 2027, but the Trust may exceed this up to 220 in consultation with Lancashire County Council on a year-by-year basis to accommodate overall secondary school place demand in Chorley. Geographical priority area comprises the civil parishes of Charnock Richard, Coppull, Euxton, Buckshaw Village, Astley Village, Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley, Withnell, Wheelton, Heapey, Anglezarke, Heath Charnock, Anderton, Adlington, Rivington, Horwich, Blackrod and Haigh.
