How places are decided at Accrington St Christopher's Church of England High School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Looked After Children and Previously Looked After Children — 1(a) Looked After Children and Previously Looked After Children — a 'looked after child' or a child who was previously 'looked after' but ceased to be looked after because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements or special guardianship order, including those who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2Special medical or social circumstances — 1(b) Children with special medical or social circumstances affecting the child where these needs can only be met at this school. Professional supporting evidence must be submitted by 31st October 2026 setting out why only this school can meet the needs.
3Named feeder primary schools — 2. Children who have attended All Saints Church of England Primary School, Clayton le Moors, or St James's Church of England Primary School, Altham, for the previous year, i.e. the whole of Year 5. A maximum of 28 pupils will be admitted under this criterion. Sub-order within this criterion: (a) staff children, (b) siblings attending on date of application and admission, (c) other children — with distance as final determining factor.
4Church worship attendance banding (worshippers at CTE/Evangelical Alliance/North West Gospel Partnership member churches) — 3. The better attending child or parent who worships in a Church which is in full membership of Churches Together in England, the Evangelical Alliance, or the North West Gospel Partnership, banded by frequency of attendance for the two years leading up to 1st September 2026: (a) four times a month, (b) three times a month, (c) twice a month, (d) once a month, (e) less than once a month. Within each attendance band the sub-order is: (i) children of staff employed for the whole of the two years prior to the closing date, (ii) children with a sibling attending the school on the date of application and admission, (iii) other children. Distance is the final determining factor within each sub-category.
5Other children — 4. Other children, sub-ordered: (i) children of staff employed for the whole of the two years prior to the closing date, (ii) children with a sibling attending the school on the date of application and admission, (iii) other children. Distance is the final determining factor.

If two applications tie: Where there are more applicants for the available places within a category, the distance between the Ordnance Survey address points for the school and the home measured in a straight line will be used, nearer addresses having priority. Where addresses are within the same building, the Local Authority's system of a random draw will determine which address(es) receive the offer(s).

Feeder school criterion (2) is capped at a maximum of 28 pupils. Church attendance is banded into five tiers (3a–3e), each with its own staff/sibling/other sub-order (i–iii). EHCP admissions are handled before these criteria but are not numbered within the published list.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
