How places are decided at Farnley Tyas Church of England Voluntary Controlled First School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Children in public care and previously looked after children — Children in public care (looked after children) and all previously looked after children, including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be as a result of being adopted
2Priority Admission Area with sibling — Children who live in the school’s Priority Admission Area (PAA) who have a brother or sister attending from the same address at the date of admission (the sibling rule)
3Priority Admission Area — Children who live in the school’s PAA
4Outside the Priority Admission Area with sibling — Children who live outside the school’s PAA who have a brother or sister attending from the same address at the date of admission (the sibling rule)
5Outside the Priority Admission Area — Children who live outside the school’s PAA

If two applications tie: If we cannot agree to requests for admission in the priorities below the first without exceeding the PAN, we will give priority up to the PAN to children living nearest the school. Distance is measured in a straight line from a child’s home address to the school using six-figure National Grid co-ordinates from the National Land and Property Gazetteer, accurate to within 1 metre. Children in priority 1 may be admitted above the PAN.

Kirklees Council is the admission authority for its community and voluntary controlled schools and sets these criteria for all of them. Every community and voluntary controlled school has a Priority Admission Area (PAA) — what other councils call a catchment area; a small number of schools share one. Academies, voluntary aided, foundation and trust schools set their own criteria.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
