Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children (LAC) and previously Looked After Children (PLAC) — A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions... A previously looked after child means such children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangements orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been looked after...
2. 2Pupil Premium — Girls who are designated as receiving 'Pupil Premium' - Applicants under this criterion must fulfil criterion 6, and complete a Supplementary Information Form... Places offered under this criterion will be offered to girls in receipt of Pupil Premium who have passed the Kent Selection Test (11+).
3. 3Current Family Association — Eligible girls living within the areas/parishes as defined in criterion 6 who have a sister who will still be attending the school when the applicant joins.
4. 4Health and Special Access Reasons — Priority will be given to those girls whose mental or physical impairment means they have a demonstrable and significant need to attend TWGGS. Equally this priority will apply to children whose parents'/guardians' physical, mental health or social needs means there is a demonstrable and significant need for their child to attend TWGGS.
5. 5Daughters of staff — Daughters of permanent members of staff (minimum 0.5FTE) who have passed the Kent Test, with the staff member having at least two years' service at the time of application... or if the member of staff has been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
6. 6Named parishes / 4 mile proximity — Eligible girls who live in the named parishes below or within a 4 mile proximity of the school... Named parishes: Badger's Mount, Bidborough, Brasted, Brenchley & Matfield, Capel, Chevening, Chiddingstone, Cowden, Dunton Green, East Peckham, Edenbridge, Hadlow, Halsted, Hever, Hildenborough, Horsmonden, Ightham, Kemsing, Knockholt, Lamberhurst, Leigh, Otford, Paddock Wood, Pembury, Penshurst, Plaxtol, Riverhead, Rusthall, Seal, Sevenoaks, Sevenoaks Weald, Shipbourne, Shoreham, Southborough, Speldhurst, Sundridge with Ide Hill, Tonbridge, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Westerham.
7. 7Distance from home to school — Determined by the distance between the girls' permanent home address and the school, measured in a straight line using the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point.
8. 8Governors' Places (17) — Offered to those girls living in the area/parishes as defined in criterion 6 who would not otherwise be offered a place, who scored highest in the 11+ PESE Kent test, places determined by combined rank order. In the case of equal scores for Governors' places, criterion 7 would be applied.

If two applications tie: If, in the event, more than one applicant has the same distance from home to school (as measured by the local authority), then the names will be issued a number and drawn randomly to decide which child should be given the place; this process will be independently supervised. In the event that the final place offered from the ranked list falls to a girl of a multiple birth, the school will offer a place to each of these children who have met the over-subscription criteria.

17 of the 174 places are Governors' Places allocated according to criterion 8. Before application of oversubscription criteria, children with an EHCP naming the school and eligible for admission to this academically selective school will be admitted; PAN reduced accordingly.
