Cornwallis Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children — A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions at the time of making an application. A previously looked after child means such children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangements orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been looked after, and those who appear to the admission authority to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be so as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Children of staff employed by Future Schools Trust at Cornwallis Academy — Where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time the application is made, or was recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
3. 3Children applying from Tiger Primary School (Boughton Lane site) — Tiger Primary School on the Boughton Lane site is run by the Future Schools Trust and is a named feeder school for Cornwallis Academy.
4. 4Children in receipt of a Scholarship — 10% of places offered to new Year 7s are awarded on a scholarship basis to children showing a particular aptitude for Art, Dance or Football. These places are subject to audition assessing whether the pupil demonstrates a particular capacity to learn or develop skills in the subject and can benefit from the expertise and facilities at the school.
5. 5Sibling / current family association — A child with a brother or sister already attending the school when the child is due to start. Brother or sister means children who live as brother or sister in the same house, including natural, adopted, step and foster siblings.
6. 6Health and Special Access Reasons — Medical, health, social and special access reasons applied in accordance with the school legal obligations, in particular under the Equality Act 2010. Priority is given to children whose mental or physical impairment means they have a demonstrable and significant need to attend this particular school, and equally where a parent or guardian physical or mental health or social needs create that need.
7. 7Nearness of children's homes to school — Distance is measured in a straight line using the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point, from a point within the child home to a point within the school; the same school address point is used for everybody.

If two applications tie: Where a criterion is oversubscribed, priority is by straight-line distance, closest first. If two or more children are otherwise equally eligible for the last place, names are numbered and drawn randomly.

Determined admission arrangements 2027-28 for Cornwallis Academy (Future Schools Trust is the admission authority). These criteria apply for Year 7 entry and for admission at any other time up to Year 11; sixth-form admission is covered by separate criteria.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
