How places are decided at St John Evangelist Catholic Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Catholic looked after/previously looked after children — Catholic 'looked after' children and Catholic children who have been adopted or made subject to child arrangements orders or special guardianship orders, immediately after having been looked after (see notes 2i, 2ii and 3).
2Baptised Catholic children with sibling at school — Baptised Catholic children who will have a brother or sister attending a Reception, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 class in St John Evangelist Catholic Primary School at the proposed date which is the deadline for admission (see notes 3 and 7).

6Catechumens and Eastern Christian Church members — Catechumens and members of an Eastern Christian Church (see notes 4 and 5).
7Other Christian denominations — Children from families of other Christian denominations whose membership is evidenced by a religious leader (see note 6).
8All other applicants — All other applicants.

If two applications tie: Where the offer of a place to all applicants in a category or sub-category would exceed the published admission number (PAN), priority will be given to children living closest to the school determined by the shortest distance, calculated by the local authority using a computerized mapping system, straight line from home address to the midpoint of the school's grounds. In the event of distances being the same for two or more children where this would determine the last place to be allocated, random allocation will be carried out and supervised by an independent witness.

Within each category, priority sub-order applies: (i) exceptional social/medical/pastoral need with compelling professional evidence; (ii) sibling attendance at time of enrolment moves application to top of category; (iii) children of staff employed directly by the school for at least two years. Twins/multiple births admitted where logistically possible if one sibling is last ranked within PAN.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
