Berkeley Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Children who are looked after by a local authority or were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after, became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order.
2. 2Exceptional medical or social need — Children for whom exceptional medical or social circumstances apply which will warrant a placement at a particular school, supported by compelling written evidence from a suitable professional submitted at time of application.
3. 3Siblings — Children who will have a brother or sister, including all blood half-, step-, adoptive and foster brothers and sisters of the child (not cousins) who live at the same home as the child, in the academy in September 2025. The applicant's sibling must be attending the academy at the time of application and must be expected to still be attending at the time of admission.
4. 4Twins/Triplets/Multiple births — In the event that the academy has one place to offer and the next child on the waiting list is one of twins, triplets or other children of multiple births, Berkeley Academy will offer both twins, all triplets or children of multiple birth a place even if this means temporarily going over the published admission's number.
5. 5Children of Members of Staff — Children of any member of staff where (I) the member of staff has been an employee of the academy for two years or more continuously at the time at which the application for admission to the academy is made, and/or (II) the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
6. 6Distance — Home to school distance measured using the LA's standard geographical information system method, from the seed point of the home address to the nearest school gate used by pupils to enter the school grounds. Where there are multiple applications with equal distances, the LA's database will randomly order these.

If two applications tie: If there is one place available in the applicant's chronological year group and two or more children next in order of priority or next on the waiting list meet the appropriate criterion equally the place will be allocated using the distance criterion. If the distances are equal, the LA's database will randomly order these.

Document header states '2027 - 2028' and waiting list operates until 31 August 2027 with in-year applications from 1 September 2027, indicating arrangements apply to Reception entry September 2027, though one unrelated passage references 'September 2026' entry eligibility which appears to be inconsistent/leftover text.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
