was the furthest place offered on offer day for 2026-27 (Reception). That is how far the last place reached in ONE year — not a boundary, and not a guarantee. It moves with the number of applicants, so treat it as a guide rather than a line on a map.

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: When there is a need for a tie break where two different addresses are the same distance from a school, in the case of a block of flats for example, the lower door number will be deemed nearest as logically this will be on the ground floor and therefore closer. If there are two identical addresses of separate applicants, the tie break will be random. Every child entered onto the HCC admissions database has an individual random number assigned, between 1 and 1 million, against each preference school. When there is a need for a final tie-break the random number is used to allocate the place, with the lowest number given priority.
Local-authority coordinated default oversubscription criteria for Hertfordshire County Council's community and voluntary-controlled schools (the council is the admission authority). Document also covers first, infant, junior and middle schools (primary phase). Secondary-specific 'nearest school' definition is included but the main ordered criteria list applies generally across community/VC schools including secondary transfer per the document's linked appendices; phase set to 'primary' as the explicit criteria document title specifies first/infant/primary/junior/middle schools.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
