Distance depends on the band here
Mossbourne Community Academy admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Children will be placed into one of four ability bands, A, B, C and D dependent on their CAT score. Band A: Above 110; Band B: 101-110; Band C: 91-100; Band D: 90 and below. Of the 216 places available, 25% will be available to each of the four bands, then divided between inner (50%), middle (30%) and outer (20%) zones, giving specific numbers per band and zone (e.g. Band A Inner - 27 places, Band A Middle - 16 places, Band A Outer - 11 places, and similarly for Bands B, C, D).
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: In the case of it not being possible to offer all of the children in all of the oversubscription criteria a place, then those applicants offered places will be decided at random from within that criterion. All remaining places in each band and zone will then be allocated amongst remaining applicants using a random computerised lottery. In the event of a tiebreak a random computerised lottery will be used.
Children with EHCPs naming the academy are admitted ahead of other applicants but are included in the band and zone allocation. Children with an EHCP and those meeting priority I to IV, living further than 4km from the Academy's front gate will still be considered in the outer zone for the band in which they are placed. Places are allocated by working through inner, then middle, then outer zones, band A to D in order.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
