All of these schools are free to attend. The differences are in who runs them, who controls admissions, and what curriculum they must follow.

20% VAT on independent school fees
From January 2025, independent school fees are subject to 20% VAT. This is expected to raise £1.5bn/year for state education. An estimated 37,000 pupils (~6%) may leave the private sector. Many schools are absorbing part of the increase. Bursaries and scholarships remain VAT-exempt.
