Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2025-26 (Reception), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
How places were offered at St Joseph's Catholic Infant School, Birtley, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: priority will be given to children living closest to the school measured as the crow flies, in a straight line from the centre of the home residence to the main entrance of the school, (using the Local Authority's computerised measuring system). In the event of distances being the same for two or more children where this would determine the last place to be allocated, random allocation will be carried out in a public place and supervised by a person independent of the school.
Within each category, applications with exceptional social/medical/pastoral need evidenced at time of application are placed at the top of that category; then applications with a sibling attending St Joseph's Catholic Infant or Junior School, Birtley are placed at the top of the category (after (i)).
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
