When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (S1), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: If, after the criteria have been applied, two or more requests cannot be distinguished as having priority, a ballot will be held to allocate the places available, organised by a senior officer of Education Services. The final criterion of distance is only used to determine the allocation of placing requests; a ballot is used in cases of over-subscription where all the children being considered live within the catchment area.
A separate placing request is needed for each child. If more than one school is requested, the council decides on the first-choice school and only considers the others if that is refused; if the first choice is granted the remaining choices are withdrawn. Documentary evidence must be submitted with the application; without it the next applicable criterion is used. A refused request is not held on a waiting list — waiting lists are held for catchment children only. A granted placing request gives no guarantee that a later request for a younger sibling will succeed. Residents outwith Glasgow may only request a school managed by Glasgow City Council.
