Holderness Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after children — Places will first be allocated to children who are looked after by a local authority and to children who were previously looked after, including children who were previously looked after outside England, but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order.
2. 2Catchment area — Places will next be allocated to children who live in the school's designated catchment area. The child concerned must be resident in the catchment area by 9 January 2027 to qualify under this criterion in the normal secondary admissions round.
3. 3Sibling — Places will next be allocated to children who will have a sibling attending the school in years 7-11 at the time of admission.
4. 4Staff children — Places will next be allocated to children of members of staff of the school. The member of staff must have been employed by the school for two years or more at the time the application for admission to the school is made or have been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
5. 5Named feeder schools — Places will next be allocated to children who have attended the school's named feeder junior or primary schools. To qualify, the child must have attended a junior or primary feeder school but attending a feeder school does not guarantee a child a place at the secondary school.
6. 6Distance — Places will next be allocated to those children who live closest to the school. The distance from the child's home to the school will be measured and priority will be given to those living nearest to the school.

If two applications tie: If the measurement of the distance from home to school above does not distinguish between two or more applicants with equal priority, random allocation will be used as the final tie-breaker, and independently verified.

This document is a shared Trust policy covering five East Riding secondary schools (Cottingham High School, Hessle High School, Holderness Academy, Howden School, Wolfreton School), each with the same oversubscription criteria order but individually stated PANs and feeder schools. Feeder school groupings within the list are inferred from geographic proximity to Holderness as the document does not explicitly re-label each sub-list with the school name it belongs to, though the named schools (Cottingham, Holderness, Hessle) are listed as headers before the feeder groupings.
