When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (P1), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 11. Parent resident in the delineated catchment — The parent, with whom the child resides, is resident within the school's delineated catchment area.
2. 22. RC school: resident in catchment and baptised Roman Catholic — In the case of a Roman Catholic school, the parent with whom the child resides is resident within the school's delineated catchment area and the child is a baptised Roman Catholic as evidenced by a baptismal certificate.
3. 33. East Renfrewshire resident with a medical condition met only here — East Renfrewshire residents where the child has a medical condition, supported with evidence from a medical practitioner, and requires facilities or support available only in the requested school.
4. 44. East Renfrewshire resident at an associated primary (secondary), longest first — East Renfrewshire residents: when applying for secondary schools, children who attend a primary school associated with the secondary school according to the length of time at the associated primary. This means that pupils who have attended the school for the longest time will have the highest priority.
5. 55. Brother or sister at the school next session — Those cases where a brother or sister attends the school and will continue in this school during the next session.
6. 66. East Renfrewshire single parent/carer family — East Renfrewshire residents: the child is part of a single parent/carer family where it would be advantageous to the care and welfare of the child to attend the requested school. Please provide details with your application.
7. 77. East Renfrewshire residents with no other listed priority — East Renfrewshire residents with no other listed priority.

If two applications tie: The criteria will be applied in the order shown. If for any category the number of requests exceeds the number of places available, the next succeeding criteria will be used to prioritise these requests and so on until all priority criteria have been exhausted. If, after this process, two or more requests cannot be distinguished as having priority, then a ballot will be held to allocate the places available, organised by a senior education officer.

Where catchment applications exceed places, those applications are deemed and processed as placing requests under Appendix 1 with no need to submit a form. A placing request to remain is required if a family moves out of the catchment; it is refused where the year stage is full and already has a redirected child. Calderwood Lodge (the Jewish primary) uses a different set of criteria. The Council checks residence, including visits, and may refer deception to the Procurator Fiscal.
