Ysgol Gynradd Carrog

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Children who have Looked After Children status, and 'previously Looked After Children'.
2. 2Individual Development Plan naming the school — Children who have an Individual Development Plan (IDP) which names the requested school.
3. 3Nearest suitable school — Children for whom the preferred school is the nearest 'suitable school' by shortest walking route, in terms of the child's age, and the parental language preference or faith preference for schools affiliated to the Church in Wales.
4. 4Sibling at the requested school — Children who will have a sibling at the requested school on the expected admission date.
5. 5Multiple birth children — Multiple birth children, whose siblings have applied for a place in the same year group.
6. 6All others, by distance — Children who do not qualify under criteria 1-5, ranked by the distance from their home to the requested school's gate, measured by the shortest walking route.

If two applications tie: Children who do not qualify under the earlier criteria are ranked by the distance from their home to the requested school's gate, measured by the shortest walking route.

DENBIGHSHIRE DOES NOT OPERATE CATCHMENT AREAS — it allocates on a 'nearest suitable school' test instead, and 'suitable' is qualified by the child's age, the parental LANGUAGE preference, and faith preference for schools affiliated to the Church in Wales. So the nearest suitable school for a family seeking Welsh-medium education is the nearest Welsh-medium school, not simply the nearest school. Note also that multiple-birth children are a ranked criterion in their own right here (rank 5), rather than a tie-break rule as in most Welsh authorities.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
