Children with a Medical Need to Attend Gonville Academy Only — The GP or hospital consultant must expressly confirm the nature of the medical condition of the child or parent and why, in their professional opinion, only Gonville Academy is suitable and appropriate. Social reasons and inconvenience for parents do not count. Places allocated within the category by proximity of home address; 3. Children with a Sibling at Gonville Academy at the Date of Admission — Sibling includes full, half, step, adopted or foster brother or sister, and a child of the parent's partner cohabiting for at least one year at the application deadline, provided they live at the child's home address and are brought up as siblings in a core family unit. Allocated within the category by proximity, and 3 further criteria. The school offers 60 places at this entry point. Tie-break: Within every category places are allocated by straight-line distance from the geographical reference point at the child's main home address to the Academy's designated entrance using the Local Authority's distance measuring software; where distances are the same, order is determined by random lottery in the presence of an independent person.

How places are decided at Gonville Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Looked After and Previously Looked After Children — A child in public care at the date of application, or who was in public care but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a Child Arrangements Order or Special Guardianship Order, including children who appear to STEP Academy Trust/the Local Authority to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be so as a result of being adopted. Must be supported by the relevant Local Authority's Children's Services Department with supporting evidence.
2Children with a Medical Need to Attend Gonville Academy Only — The GP or hospital consultant must expressly confirm the nature of the medical condition of the child or parent and why, in their professional opinion, only Gonville Academy is suitable and appropriate. Social reasons and inconvenience for parents do not count. Places allocated within the category by proximity of home address.
3Children with a Sibling at Gonville Academy at the Date of Admission — Sibling includes full, half, step, adopted or foster brother or sister, and a child of the parent's partner cohabiting for at least one year at the application deadline, provided they live at the child's home address and are brought up as siblings in a core family unit. Allocated within the category by proximity.
4Eligible Children who attend Gonville Nursery — Children attending Gonville Nursery who are eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium at the application deadline. A Category 4 form must be submitted by the application deadline. Allocated within the category by distance.
5Children of Staff at the Academy — Children of staff employed by the Trust who work at Gonville Academy for more than 50% of their normal working week, where the member of staff has been employed by the Trust at the Academy for at least two years at the application deadline, and/or was recruited to fill a vacant post for which there was a demonstrable skill shortage.
6All Other Children — Allocated by reference to proximity of the child's home address to the Academy, with those living nearer receiving higher priority.

If two applications tie: Within every category places are allocated by straight-line distance from the geographical reference point at the child's main home address to the Academy's designated entrance using the Local Authority's distance measuring software; where distances are the same, order is determined by random lottery in the presence of an independent person.

Determined admission policy 2027-2028. Admission authority is STEP Academy Trust. Nursery attendance does not give automatic transfer to Reception; EYPP-eligible nursery children have priority under criterion 4.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
