How places are decided at St Oswald's Church of England Aided Primary and Nursery School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Looked-after and previously looked-after children — "Looked-after children and children who were previously looked after, but ceased to be so because, immediately after being looked after, they became subject to an adoption, child arrangements or special guardianship order. (see Note 1) including children previously in state care outside of England who have ceased to be in that state care as a result of being adopted (See Note 2)
2Siblings — Children who have a sibling* already attending the school and who is expected to still be on the school roll at the date of admission. *Sibling is defined as children who live as brother or sister in the same house, including natural brothers or sisters, half brothers or sisters, adopted brothers or sisters, step brothers or sisters and children of the parent/carer's partner.
3Children of Staff at the School — Children with a parent (defined as an adult who has parental responsibility for the child and with whom the child normally resides) who has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made.
4Any other children — Any other children.

If two applications tie: Children who live nearest St Oswald's School measured by the shortest walking route will be given preference. Where the last place to be allocated would mean that a multiple birth sibling group i.e. twins, triplets or other multiple birth sibling groups, would be split, the sibling group will be given priority over other children. Otherwise if only one final place can be offered and two applicants live equidistant from the school, random allocation will apply.

Children with an EHCP naming the school are admitted as a statutory entitlement, overriding the oversubscription criteria. Children of UK Armed Forces personnel are allocated places in advance of arrival in the area provided an official letter with relocation date and unit/quartering address is supplied.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
