The Whitby High School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked-after and previously looked-after children — Highest priority will be given to looked-after children and all previously looked-after children who apply for a place at the school.
2. 2Medical or social reasons — Children for whom there are particular medical or social reasons, which, in the Governors' view, justifies admission to a particular school. Supporting evidence from a registered professional, such as a medical practitioner, psychologist or social worker, must be provided which sets out the particular reasons why the school in question is the most suitable school and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend another school. A panel of Governors will consider the information presented and will determine whether the evidence is sufficiently compelling to apply this criterion to the application. The Governors, if it is considered appropriate, will seek the views of a Medical Professional or Educational Psychologist in the event of parents requesting admission on medical or psychological grounds. This criterion cannot be considered if the required documents have not been received. Few applications fall within this category.
3. 3Siblings — Students with brothers or sisters, stepbrothers or stepsisters, half-brothers and half-sisters living together as part of one household, already attending the preferred school, and expected to continue at the school in the following school year.
4. 4Designated feeder school — Students attending a designated feeder school. The designated feeder schools are: a. Capenhurst CE Primary b. Ellesmere Port Christchurch CE Primary c. Meadow Primary d. Sutton Green Primary School e. Whitby Heath Primary School f. William Stockton Primary g. Woodlands CE Primary
5. 5Distance — Distance will be measured in a straight line from the child's home address to the school's front gates. For the purposes of this policy, a child's home address is defined as the place where they live and sleep for the majority of nights in a normal school week, with their parent(s). If a child lives in different properties (shared care), parents must provide the address where the child lives for the majority of the week. In cases of equal shared care, both parents must agree which address should be used on the application. For applications made in the normal round, if there is no agreement, the local authority will decide which address will be used.

If two applications tie: In the case of two or more applications that cannot be separated by the oversubscription criteria outlined above, the school will use random allocation as a tie breaker to decide between applicants. Random allocation will be drawn by lots. This process will be independently verified.

PAN of 270 is for Year 7 entry. Year 12 external candidates admission number is 20 places. Year 12 entry requires a minimum of four 4+ grades at GCSE or equivalent, plus minimum entry grade per subject. Waiting list maintained until 31 December of each school year of admission.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
